Show the Planet Some Love! Tips for a Green Valentine’s Day in Prague

Love it or not, Valentine’s Day is around the corner! So if you happen to be in Prague on February 14th and want to show some appreciation to a special someone, or just to the world, we’ve rounded up some green Valentine’s Day gift ideas for you! Enjoy!

1. Take a ride in a Tesla

Nothing like a little adrenaline to kick-start your relationship! Give your tech-savvy love a taste of the future of transport by renting a Tesla for a few hours. Teslas can be rented from Green Motion, located both at the airport and in the center of Prague (use our special “PGCG” code when booking to get a 10% discount!). You can also rent Teslas and other electric cars, by the hour, from Electric Park, located in the Karlín district.

2. Spend the day outside

For a more low-tech adventure, how about some outdoor sports? After all, they say couples who sweat together, stay together! For a fun day together in Prague, consider going ice-skating (for a list of locations, see this link) or cross-country skiing. Snow-permitting, cross-country skiing can be done in the Divoká Šárka and Ladronka parks. If there’s not much snow outside, head to Velká Chuchle, where snow-machines keep the tracks ski-ready all season, and equipment can be rented on site.

3. Go pamper yourself in a countryside chateau

The best thing about creating wonderful memories is that they won’t end up in a landfill! Chateau Mcely is a good place to create them. The beautifully renovated chateau offers natural spa treatments, delicious food from their Piano Nobile restaurant and accommodation fit for royalty. It’s set near the St. George forest, great for hiking and biking.  Plus: if you book a room online with breakfast using our special “PGCG” code*, you’ll get a 10% discount!

4. Treat yourself to a candlelit vegetarian dinner

Eating vegetarian doesn’t mean you can’t indulge your senses. For classy options, check out Lehká Hlava, Maitrea, Incruenti, Estrella, Vegan’s Prague or Etnosvět. Or cook by yourself at home! Our book is full of tips on where to buy healthy organic ingredients. 🙂

5. Choose conflict-free jewelry

It’s pretty well-known by now that there’s a dirty business behind precious materials like gold and diamonds (to learn more, read here, here and here). Keep your jewels positive by opting for handmade pieces by local designers, made with responsible materials, ideally recycled, upcycled, vintage or conflict-free. Some great places to find locally handmade jewelry in Prague include Koncept Story, Harddecore, Showroom., 100 Class and Designum Gallery. For more on how to pick sustainable jewelry, see this handy guide.

6. Go for Fair Trade flowers

Flowers are pretty, but often the story of where they came from isn’t. For a more transparent, socially and environmentally conscious alternative, go instead for locally grown or Fair Trade certified flowers. In Prague, Green Decor offers just that. And they’re still really pretty, we promise!

7. Write a love letter (on eco-friendly paper) 🙂

Help keep both chivalry and our planet’s forests alive by writing your love letters on beautiful eco-friendly stationery from Papirna or papelote (tip: bring a copy of your Prague Green City Guide to the latter for a 10% discount)!

8. Get in touch with nature

Hang out with animals! Hug a tree! Feed the birds! Pick up trash! Love the world and it will love you back. 🙂

9. Show some love to the unloved

Whether you’re part of a couple or single, why not take the opportunity to show some love to those who are least accustomed to receiving it? For example, take a homeless tour with Pragulic and learn about Prague from a totally different and eye-opening point of view.

10. Share the love all year long!

Showing love isn’t about special holidays or being in a relationship, it’s about caring for others and yourself, no matter what day of the year! Have fun!
